“The Enlightenment – A Musical in 12 Steps” will uplift your spirit.
What do you get when “A Chorus Line” musical intersects with a 12-step meeting? Answer: “The Enlightenment – A Musical in 12 Steps,” which opens March 5 at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theatre in Denver.
The Enlightenment performance, a fundraiser for the Center for Spiritual Living in Denver’s Capitol Hill area, is an authentic story of spiritual discovery made for an all-inclusive audience ages 13 and older.
Directed by Denver’s well-respected Sarah Roshan with music direction by Ron Troester and Lee Ann Scherlong, this original musical is about finding strength in your self and some kind of higher power. Eight main characters provide a humorous, compassionate and thought-provoking view into the process and power of self-discovery. The show hosts two acts with 15 original musical numbers, some dialogue and numerous soliloquies.
“The music will stir your soul and the experience will linger in your heart, shedding light on your own life for days after you see the show,” says the Rev. Mary Jo Honiotes of the Center for Spiritual Living. “A big dose of music, dance and humor adds levity to the characters’ stories.”
One character depicted in the play, Shatki, is a recovering alcoholic who used bourbon to numb the pain of losing her infant son who died tragically. She takes a turn in the spotlight to tell her poignant story, how she became addicted and what lead her to recovery.
“This musical explores human conditions that everyone can relate to, such as the desire to live a fulfilling life, overcoming life’s challenges, finding strength within and being honest with ourselves,” says Honiotes.
The musical runs March 5, 6, 12 and 13 at 7:30 p.m., and a matinee on March 14, 2 p.m., at the Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Theater located at 119 Park Avenue West, Denver. Ticket prices are $10, $15 and $20.
A Gala Celebration on March 6, 5:30 p.m., includes a pre-theater reception with food and beverages, a silent auction, special sponsor acknowledgements, and play tickets for the evening’s performance. Gala tickets are $25, $50 and $100.

The Enlightenment performance, a fundraiser for the Center for Spiritual Living in Denver’s Capitol Hill area, is an authentic story of spiritual discovery made for an all-inclusive audience ages 13 and older.
Directed by Denver’s well-respected Sarah Roshan with music direction by lRon Troester and Lee Ann Scherlong, this original musical is about finding strength in your self and some kind of higher power. Eight main characters provide a humorous, compassionate and thought-provoking view into the process and power of self-discovery. The show hosts two acts with 15 original musical numbers, some dialogue and numerous soliloquies.
“The music will stir your soul and the experience will linger in your heart, shedding light on your own life for days after you see the show,” says the Rev. Mary Jo Honiotes of the Center for Spiritual Living. “A big dose of music, dance and humor adds levity to the characters’ stories.”
One character depicted in the play, Shatki, is a recovering alcoholic who used bourbon to numb the pain of losing her infant son who died tragically. She takes a turn in the spotlight to tell her poignant story, how she became addicted and what lead her to recovery.
“This musical explores human conditions that everyone can relate to, such as the desire to live a fulfilling life, overcoming life’s challenges, finding strength within and being honest with ourselves,” says Honiotes.
